Plus-Size Ad Gets Banned

Lane Bryant recently came out with a new lingerie line called Cacique. The commerial stars Ashley Graham who is a size 16 "plus size" model. The commercial was supposed to be aired on both the FOX and ABC networks. However, ABC completely denied airing the plus-size lingerie commercial no if, ands or buts. It was suppose to air during Dancing With the Stars but ironically was banned for being to sexy for american T.V. What doesn't make any sense to me is that the commercial was banned for being to sexy and for showing way to much cleavage. Ok so i can and would've completely understood if that was the real reason for banning the commercial but it wasn't. The commercial was suppose to air during "Dancing With the Stars" which is a very provogative show. All the dancers wear sexy, skimpy and revealing outfits which reveals alot of skin and cleavage just like the Lane Bryant commercial. Not even to mention Pamela Anderson's huge boobs that are constantly revealed during her performance. Also, during Dancing With the Stars there were several Victoria Secret commercials that aired. Yet the Lane Bryant commercial was aired for being to sexy??? Woah if that isn't onw of the biggest contradictions ever. What's even more ironic is that Lane Bryant and Victoria Secret are owned by the same company. The real reason i believe it was banned was because it was showing plus size women in lingerie portraying sexuality. Society is'nt necessarily use to seeing any other women over a size 4 modeling lingerie and were probably uncomfortable and decided to ban the commercial. It's a complete double standard and that Ashley Graham was beautiful and was representing and portraying what real women in america look like. Because not all women are under a size 4. I think if society is willing to show a Victoria Secret lingerie commercial they should show a Lane Bryant lingerie commercial.

  1. This is just another double standard in our media. It is so bad if there is a plus size model on TV. The sad truth is that most American women are not size 4 and instead of trying to sell products that are aimed at them. I am not a skinny girl and every time that I go to buy new jeans, it is always the bigger sizes that are hard to find. Because I’m not a size 4 and I never care to be, I find that unhealthy skinny look really gross. The picture with the plus model is beautiful and she is incredibly pretty. Who cares if she is bigger? Maybe women would develop higher self-esteem if they were exposed to these commercials that had plus sized women as their sales person. The media really needs to back off. Also, if your going to not run a commercial because it is too sexy, please don’t lie about it. How can you argue that is a good reason when you show the same thing but just from Victoria’s Secret? At least if you are going to discriminate bigger females, be honest about it!

  2. This is a little ridiculous. They can air things like Victoria Secret commercials with women wearing barely anything. But when a plus size advertisment comes out they ban it? They have Calvin Klein ads out as well as others that practically show a couple having sex with nothing on. They need to not beat around the bush and just be honest for once.

  3. I still dont understand the irony of this, somehow real double D's are too sexy as compared to the D's on a size 0 model?. When did the "real thing" became punish over the fake. Obviously the producers of the show are playing the role of gatekeppers shaping their own idea of beauty and sexiness.

  4. I saw this ad on TV and at the time I did think it was a little racy. However, I think that most underwear ads including victoria's secret are almost inappropriate. In comparison of the two ads it is crazy that the ad for full coverage underwear is considered more inappropriate than the ad adverising for "barely there" underwear.

  5. So I went and looked this commercial up. I thought it was tasteful and very comparable to any victorias secret. Actually, victoritas secret commercials are much more scandalous and do not show anything less than the Lane Bryant commercial. Our society needs to grow the hell up and realize that the ideal model size is just not practical for everyday real women! We need to understand the true meaning of being beautiful and this discrimination toward anyone that does not fit in the ideal cookie cutter shape needs to stop. Ashley Graham is a beautiful woman and her body is refreshing especially since she is proud flaunting it! Good for her and as for the networks they have the power to change the way our society thinks and they are ultimately disappointing.
